Ride Saturday, August 26

This week’s topical heat will give way to nice, cool weather Saturday morning. It will be 63 to 73 degrees, with partly cloudy skies, and a NNE wind at about 7 mph. If you’ve been over training, like many of us do, this is a good week to stay off the bike to rebuild mentally and physically.

Saturday’s ride will be from Rosemount to Grey Cloud Island counterclockwise, starting at 8:00. Our route crosses the Mississippi River twice, and each crossing is followed by about 350 feet of climbing. We’ll stop about 20 miles out, at the beach near Prescott, where you can get more water, and later in the ride if needed. Bring plenty of food, because our stops won’t offer anything for purchase.

Saturday’s ride will leave Rosemount at 8:00 and follow our Northfield route counterclockwise. This route starts off by winding through Rosemount for 6 miles before heading south to Northfield, where we’ll stop at B.O.B. This 55-mile loop has less than 1000 feet of elevation and a lot fewer stop signs or traffic lights than most of our recent routes, so it will be a nice change of pace. Please note that our rides start at the advertised time, so don’t expect everyone else to wait for you if you show up late.

Saturday’s ride will start in Rosemount and 8:00 and it will follow a new alternate route to Shakopee. It’s been nearly two years since we’ve followed this route counterclockwise, and I’ve made a few minor changes, like following the Minnesota Valley State Trail for a couple of miles and avoiding some road construction. We have a few different places we can stop along the way, so we’ll see if folks prefer Hyland park or a donuts shop.

Saturday’s ride will be from Rosemount to Cannon Falls counterclockwise. This 55-mile loop is quite flat with just 1000 feet of climbing. We’ll stop in Cannon Falls for food and drinks before returning to the start.

Saturday's ride will be to Prior Lake via Black Dog Lake and returning via Farmington. This 62-mile route starts out like last week's ride, but we'll take a different route to Prior Lake via the newly raised and paved trail along I-35W in Burnsville. Kudos to the City of Burnsville for raising this trail to reduce the number of closures due to flooding going forward!

After leaving our stop in Prior Lake, we'll head a little further south before heading west to Farmington. In Farmington, you have the option of a shorter return via Hwy 3 for a 54-mile ride, which also avoids CR46.

For our ride this week, we will be heading west from Rosemount to Bloomington and Prior Lake counterclockwise. We’ll get there by going through Bloomington, because the trail along Hwy 35W is still closed. Burnsville is raising the trail, to avoid future closures due to flooding, and they moved the opening date back a week. This route is 54 miles and has about 2100 feet of climbing. We’ll stop in Prior Lake before returning to Rosemount.

Ride Saturday, July 8

This week's route will offer a sense of familiarity, as we will start on the same roads as last week. However, we will head north towards Edina via the Minnesota Valley State Trail, following a clockwise direction. The trail will greet us with its enchanting scenery, allowing us to soak in the beauty of nature as we pedal onward. Just like last week, we will take a well-deserved break at Hyland Park, pausing to refuel and chat amidst the tranquility of the surroundings.

This Saturday’s ride will be from Rosemount to Northfield clockwise, starting at 8:00. The shoulder along CR 47 is narrow most of the way from Hampton to Northfield, so you’ll need to ride single file. There will also be crosswinds on that section, so take it slow to avoid dropping riders. The road construction on CR86 is continuing and paving of the roadway from Garrett Avenue to Foliage Avenue was scheduled for this week, so we should have new pavement for that short section of the road.
