Saturday’s 44-mile route to Castle Rock

Saturday’s 44-mile route to Castle Rock

It’s spring and the weather and roads are looking good, so we are going to meet for our first outdoor ride of the year on Saturday afternoon. The wind is expected to be from the South, so we will follow the Northfield route, but we’ll shorten it by staying on CR 86 through Castle Rock. for a 44-mile loop.

For those who need to go shorter, you can do something like this 25-mile loop, or even a few miles shorter if you go north on Hwy 3 at CR 66 instead of going through Farmington. The first 11 miles will follow the same route as the longer loop, so you can decide when we get to the intersection of CR 66 and CR 79 to turn south. Either way, we should have a tail wind for the last stretch back to Rosemount.

We’ll leave Starbucks in Rosemount at 13:00 (1 PM), so don’t be late. There will be a short pit stop in Castle Rock, for those doing the 44-mile route.

Since it’s spring, and many of us haven’t ridden outside in months, we’ll ride at an average pace of 18 mph. This flat route, which only has about 600 feet of climbing, should be good for everyone. Those with good legs can be out front to help folks with spring legs.

Don’t forget to order your 2019 club kit today. The store closes Thursday night, so time is running out to get our awesome kit at super-low prices.

You may have heard that Penn Cycle stores are closed and they will re-open as Freewheel Bike on March 22. If you have a gift certificates or in-store credit for Penn, use it before April 3 or you’ll lose it.
