How to Wash Your Cycling Kit

Washing your cycling kit can be done in four clear steps: Prepare, Spot-clean, Wash, and Dry.

Prepare

  • Empty pockets and remove any loose debris.

  • Turn bibs and jerseys inside out.

  • Zip up jerseys to protect zips and fabric.

Spot-clean

  • For mud or visible dirt: rinse the area with water, apply a mild detergent, and gently rub the fabric until the soil is reduced or removed. If heavily soiled, let the item soak for a short time before washing.

  • For petroleum-based products (chain oil, lubricants): pre-treat the spot with a grease-cutting dish soap (for example, Dawn). Work it in gently, then rinse.

  • Use only mild detergents suitable for technical fabrics.

Wash

  • Machine wash on a gentle or delicate cycle with cold or lukewarm water. This short, low-agitation cycle reduces wear on technical fabrics.

  • Wash similar items together (jerseys and bibs with similar colors) and avoid washing with heavy or abrasive garments (jeans, towels).

  • Use a detergent formulated for technical/synthetic fabrics if available; avoid fabric softeners and bleach.

Dry

  • Air dry for best results; do not tumble dry.

  • Hang bibs and jerseys on hangers to maintain shape.

  • Dry socks, gloves, and accessories over a rail or bike top tube where air can circulate.

  • Ensure items are completely dry before storing.

Additional tips

  • Close zippers and fasten any Velcro to prevent snags.

  • Turn items inside out to protect prints and reflective elements.

  • Wash kit soon after use to prevent stains from setting and to avoid lingering odors.

  • Wash muddy kit before the mud dries, when possible.
