Ride Saturday, June 10

Saturday’s ride will be to Prescott and Grey Cloud Island. Like last week’s route, this 60-mile loop has a stop early in the route at Point Douglas Park, and a few other nature-break opportunities, if needed. The route also has 1,900 feet of climbing, with about a third of it coming right in the four miles after leaving the park and another four-mile stretch from Rock Island Swing Bridge to Hwy 52.

I won’t be leading the ride, so I expect one to two of the seasoned veterans who know the route will step up and ensure that everyone stays safe and together, especially during and after the climbs. Remember, when on the road, keep as far right as it is safe to do. There aren’t a lot of wide shoulders on this route, so you may need to ride single file when there’s not enough room to have two rows right of the fog line.

You should have good weather with partly cloudy skies, temps from 69 to 76 degrees, and NNE winds from 4 to 8 mph.

Two movies about cycling are about to be released this month. The first is “Tour de France Unchained,” and it will be available starting Thursday on Netflix. The other is “The Last Rider,” a film about Minnesota’s own Greg LeMond’s 1989 Tour de France win, and it opens on June 23. Judging by the trailer, it looks like a good reason go to a movie theater again.
