Ride Sunday, May 5

We’re going to ride Sunday morning, starting at 9:00, because it’s supposed to rain again Saturday morning and to avoid the traffic Saturday afternoon. Our route will be Saint Paul Summit Ave clockwise, which is about 45-miles long and has about 2,000 feet of elevation. We’ll likely stop for a short nature break at Cherokee Regional Park, which is just past the High Bridge. Sunday morning it will be 52°F to 60°F, with sunny skies and a light north wind at about 4 mph.

Ride Saturday, May 21

In case you haven’t noticed, Black Dog Trail has been flooded near I-35W since Sunday. The river bottoms and many roads and trails near the Minnesota River are now under water. The national weather service says the water is expected to rise above flood stage Thursday evening to a crest of 702.5 feet early Sunday afternoon. The last time the river was that high was 1985.

Flooding and construction limit our options for a northerly ride this week, so I’ve modified our Minneapolis route to cross the Minnesota River at I-494, rather than the Mendota Bridge, which is closed for construction through June. This alternate Midtown Greenway loop includes a rest stop at Sebastian Joe’s Ice Cream Shop near Lake Harriet and a short stop at Grand Performance, our club’s bike shop. Expect more trails, stops, and therefore more time for this ride than most of our rides. The weather during the ride is expected to be cloudy with temps from 47 to 50 degrees and NNW winds at 9 mph.

Ride Saturday, April 17

It’s going to be a little colder Saturday morning, so we’ll start our ride a little later, at 09:00. During the ride, we should have mostly cloudy skies with temps from 43 to 51 degrees and north winds at 5 to 8 mph.

A handful of you rode to Saint Paul last Saturday and we’ll repeat that this week, but in the opposite direction. This shorter route will be good for the later start and its elevation changes will give us a good workout. I’m still working to get my strength back after my nasty cold, so a shorter route may be all that I can do this week.

Ride Saturday, August 29

Saturday, we’ll be heading north to St. Paul and Minneapolis. We’ll follow our Minneapolis Greenway route counter clockwise. This 55-mile route has a bit of everything: climbs, straight flat roads and trails, and rivers and lakes. The heat is going to break, so we will have cooler temps of 61 to 70 degrees, with sunny skies and a moderate wind from the northwest.

Ride Sunday, July 12

There’s a good chance of showers Saturday, so we’ll ride Sunday morning, when the weather will be better. We’ll leave Starbucks Sunday at 08:00 and head north to St. Paul, then we’ll head west to Minneapolis via the Greenway and back to Rosemount. We’ll stop at a park in Minneapolis for restroom and snack break.

There won’t be very much traffic Sunday, and it will be sunny with temps from 69 to 76 degrees and light winds from the north, so it should be a great ride.
