Proceeding the fatal crash that took the life of Patric Vitek, there is both interest and momentum in the city, county, and school district to address traffic safety around the schools. Simultaneously there are community members who have varied focus but common goals to see safer streets for people of all ages walking and biking. Organized advocates are vital to changing the status quo of high speeds and wide roads. If the community members are not coordinated and engaged in both short term and long-term activities institutions will repeat the same conditions.
Objectives of the workshop:
• Organize and coordinate among community advocacy groups
• Develop short- and long-term priorities that target the key institutions that affect safety and mobility in Dakota County.
• Identify actions for individual advocates
This event is intended for advocates and community members in Eagan who are interested in creating a community where all people can safely walk and bike to their destinations. The workshop will be facilitated by Jill Chamberlain (Blue Cross Blue Shield MN), Nick Mason (Bike MN) and Kate Matusinec (Bike MN).
