Winter Rides
Mark Kranz reminded me that Saturday is Global Fat Bike Day, so I thought we should celebrate with a ride on the Minnesota River Bottoms Trail. This is an easy, flat trail that anyone can ride. We won't have snow to ride on this weekend, so you can also use a mountain or cycle-cross bike, as many other riders did last Saturday. I think I even saw someone on a road bike last week, so conditions are good for just about any kind of bike.
We will meet at the parking lot on Lyndale Avenue, by I-35W in Bloomington. (We've ridden through there many times, so you should be familiar with it.) We will start riding at 9:00 and ride east toward Cedar Avenue and beyond. You may also join us on the north side of the Cedar Avenue bridge around 9:20 to 9:25. If you ride from Eagan make sure you cross the river and then look for us on the trail north of the river. We'll decide from there where we should ride next.
We'll regroup at regular intervals on the trail, as needed. I think we'll ride about three hours and finish around Noon. It should be warm for this time of year with temps from about 27 to 36 degrees and mostly cloudy skies.
Zwifters, 35 of you have joined our club. This is a reminder that we have weekly rides at 8:00 on Saturdays. The rides are usually about 90 to 120 minutes long, but you can stop at any time, since you're always at home. By default, the Companion app will notify you about the club's rides and chat messages, and you may use it to RSVP any time before the rides start. We can schedule rides up to three weeks out, so you can register for more than one week.
Doug Blomker started organizing an RCC team for the WTRL TTTs on Zwift this season. So, if you're interested, reach out to Doug or me and we'll give you more information and get you signed up to join us.
Al Loquasto asked me to share Mark Koepke's obituary. Mark was an avid cyclist and he rode with RCC a half dozen times, so you may know him.
